Nikuyah Walker

  1. Nikuyah is currently leading the city of Charlottesville, VA as its first Black woman mayor.

  2. Before serving on the city council, she spent years of working as an advocate for racial and social justice. She has held previous positions as a substance abuse clinician, HIV prevention educator and community organizer.

  3. She was the first Independent candidate to be elected to the Charlottesville City Council since the 1940s. This happened in the wake of highly publicized white nationalist rallies that were held in the city in 2017.

  4. She leverages social media to reach her community directly, hosting Facebook Live chats every other week to hear concerns and questions from her community.

  5. Mayor Walker is a graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University and a mother of three children.
